Dusk safaris are a wonderful chance to see foxes and owls. Groups of fallow and red deer, longhorn cows and Exmoor ponies wander down to ponds and lakes for an evening drink.
We’ll head out into the Wildland in our open-sided Austrian Pinzgauer, with plenty of stops at sites of interest for a brief walk around.
Using echo-locators we’ll identify some of Knepp’s 13 species of bats as they fly out to feed over Hammer Pond.
Frogs, insects and, in May, nightingales give voice as night falls, producing an almost equatorial sound, along with the hoots of tawny owls.
The safari winds up with a glass of wine and a last chance to soak in the lovely sounds of evening overlooking the lake.
This is a vehicular safari with stops to get out at sites of interest so there may be a little walking on uneven ground in poor light, and ascending up the flight of steps to a tree-platform, plus getting in and out of the back of the Pinzgauer vehicle which has two steps.
