Steeped in myth and legend, owls are rarely seen in the wild these days. Knepp has all five UK species of owl at various times of the year, and in good numbers. Learn how to identify our owls by sight and sound, and about their behaviour and ecology during a short presentation over a cup of tea and homemade brownies.
Then venture out in our Austrian Pinzgauer open-sided safari vehicle for a tour of owl habitat and territories, looking and listening for signs on the way. With David Plummer's specialist knowledge of owls and their habits at Knepp you stand an excellent chance of seeing some of our resident breeding tawny, barn and little owls.
This is a vehicular safari with stops to get out at sites of interest so there may be a little walking on uneven ground in poor light, ascending a flight of steps to a tree-platform, plus getting in and out of the back of the Pinzgauer vehicle which has a step.
Please note that this is not a photographic safari. This is for the quiet observation of owls. Cameras are not permitted due to flash and sound scaring the birds. If you’d like to photograph owls, which will be with a different set-up, please book in with David here.
